Announcing New Social Studies Subjects for Updated North Carolina State Standards
The NCPDI (North Carolina Department of Public Instruction) is the governing body that determines North Carolina’s curriculum and assessment standards. On Feb. 4th, 2021, the Board of Education approved new content standards for social studies for grades K through 12 under the NCSCOS (North Carolina Standard Course of Study). These changes are scheduled to be implemented for the 2021-2022 school year.
While there are no required Social Studies assessments in NC, USATestprep has published new social studies content for Grades 3-12 aligned with the updated NCSCOS standards to further empower teachers to help their students master state standards in social studies across all relevant grade levels.
The NCSCOS standards are a framework designed to teach the full spectrum of history and civics subjects, helping students not only learn information about U.S. and world history but also apply that knowledge to become more informed and active citizens in the real world.
In the NC Superintendent of Public Instruction’s preamble to the new standards, she had this to say:
“History is the study of imperfect choices across the ages that requires knowledge of facts, dates, names, places, events, and ideas. It also requires students to engage in questioning, research, and discussion so that as young adults, they can examine a historical record for themselves and support their views.”
With multiple learning modes designed to support classroom activities, assessments, and personalized learning, USATestprep is the most powerful resource for educators and the students that depend on them to expand their horizons and meet their goals. Each of our available subjects is developed in alignment with state standards, providing the most effective and comprehensive online solution for students who need help and practice with a full range of subjects.
